“Tentative efforts lead to tentative outcomes. Therefore, give yourself fully to your endeavors. Decide to construct your character through excellent actions and determine to pay the price of a worthy goal. The trials you encounter will introduce you to your strengths. Remain steadfast...and one day you will build something that endures: something worthy of your potential.”

So said the wise Epictetus of old. A guiding line of many worth at least earning it's due moment of thought. This string for instance is one I've let shape my life in part, wisdom I agree with.

An odd place to start perhaps, but so is any. Like any man that's lived their due life there's far more tale to share then I could possibly fit within this modest space. Far more then I'm willing to share so how about we get the general gist of it?

I'm a born and breed Norwegian with parts Swede courtesy of maternal lineage. So as Norse a 'bear' as they will come if some have their say. It's a note and part held high. There's no harm in ancestral pride, least not if one holds it with open eyes to the flaws of past.

For my day to day stealing most my hours even if at times with mere partial presence required I am a  professor in Mathematics. Teaching is a passion discovered early, though nowhere near as early as my love for said field was. In some ways my choice of career was since boyhood long predetermined.

Though maths is my passion the thirst for knowledge hardly stops there. Classic literature has for ages been a staple part. The greats of old is something to remember. History is yet another thing where I find myself indulging plenty, same goes for philosophy. I believe life much too short to stop being ambitious, to stop hungering for knowledge. To believe isn't enough though, one must live such beliefs out.

Beyond that I'm perhaps a man of fairly simple tastes. I enjoy beyond a good read a nice scotch, a rare good cigar or the never ending grind towards physical goals. The gym, activity in general and the like have always been a keystone in my life.
